if I have a private Chef this would be the type of food I would eat as much as possible. It's true, this place is very busy to the point it's very noisy. At 7pm, during a WEEKNIGHT, monday night. There were 6 people lining up. I think there are a few dishes different from Shizen in SF. (I think the owner has a partnership in it) I think the owner also own the Honolulu, HI restaurant. (maybe just partnership in SF) Yes, I'll go check it out the HI restaurant someday. warning: the soup of the Ramen is like a thick brown gravy. just want you to know I would not order a sushi roll with tempura. It was just the fried hard, crunchy batter. pro: Nicely decorated place con: very very noisy restaurant cause it's full.. You have to wait to get a table cause people love this place.

A fun spot for Japanese vegan eats tucked into the heart of Palo Alto -- I love when vegan places don't try to emulate meat but rather cook vegetables well. The waiters are really attentive and kind, would recommend making a reservation since it gets busy. All of the rolls were delicious but the Wedge is a must-order!

Really impressive vegan sushi - we ordered The Wedge which is a fried roll that we absolutely loved. The Futo Maki was pretty standard I'd say & the shiitake appetiser was just ok. The mushroom inside was bland so I didn't really enjoy biting into it. The location is pretty small with maybe 5-6 tables in total so you might want to get a reservation if you are heading there on a weekend. Overall, I'd recommend if you enjoy veg sushi but beware that each specialty roll is between $19-$21 so might wanna remember that!

Great vegan option even for a meat lover (if you like Japanese flavors) The garlic miso ramen is quite good though I did find the chasu meat substitute not to my liking The Waimanalo roll was quite flavorful and colorful. Would repeat. The zero alcohol asahi beer tasted pretty close to real thing and had good foam and was served properly cold. If you're looking for a healthy option that is still tasty this place is for you. The ambiance is cool but not formal or stuffy.

Came in for a date night with my husband with a reservation, and the food was fantastic! We hadn't been to downtown Palo Alto in the evening in quite a while and very much underestimated the difficulty in parking--it took us over half an hour to find parking, so by the time we arrived at the restaurant we were probably 15 to 20 minutes late, and the hostess was visibly annoyed with us and curtly told us the time we'd be expected to vacate our table for the next reservations... So started out with a bad impression (and that's the reason this is only 4 stars on the rating). The waitress was notably warmer and more welcoming, thankfully. The food itself was delicious! We had the Eryngii nigiri, the corn yakimono, the Monterey, and the Half Moon. We also got some mocktails (a shiso shrub for me and a pineapple li hing for husband) and ended up trading them since my husband strongly preferred my drink over his and I liked them both. The Eryngii nigiri was wonderfully flavorful, but it's sad that it's only two pieces (at least for the price). My husband was a huge fan of the corn yakimono, and it was good, but not amazing to me. Both the rolls we got were fantastic, but my husband was super into the Half Moon and basically claimed that one mostly to himself, LOL. (I guess we know what he'll order next time we come, heh.) We also tried the matcha cheesecake (they were out of many of their desserts that night, and my husband isn't big on matcha, but I am, so it was mostly for me). It had a good texture and wasn't too sweet, which was a good contrast with the berry compote. The location itself is nicely decorated and laid out, and definitely has a "modern" izakaya feel to it. I like that the partition from the entrance is slatted so it's not quite a solid wall, but still provides the sense of separation. Apart from the grumpy hostess who greeted and seated us, the staff were pretty friendly, and I assume the shortness with us is a product of them being fairly full on reservations that night. (So probably justified, but the stress of struggling to find parking for so long coupled with such a harsh greeting really put an initial damper on the evening.) Overall, good place for great vegan sushi, and I expect we'll be back (and will give ourselves a full dang hour to find parking next time, because wow parking in Palo Alto is brutal at dinnertime).

Adore this place! Food is delicious. We've been at least 5 times and tried at least 8 of the rolls - all were fantastic. Definitely recommend to vegans and non vegans. Great place to go if you want to eat vegan without sacrificing flavor.

Glad it's opened in South Bay. No more need to drive to SF for shizen or Berkeley. Food is still amazing as I expected from all the locations including Hawaii.

Loved the food! Beautiful presentation. A bit one the pricier side, but I'd gladly spend the money on the exclusively (and a large) vegan menu they have to offer. The service was okay. Our server forgot one of our orders items. If the place was crowded, I'd have given them the benefit of doubt, but it wasn't crowded. Ambiance is a cross of chic and traditional Japanese. Dim lights, romantic music, relaxing vibes and all that. We will definitely be back to try other things from their menu.

Been here 4 times in 6 months!! Ambiance is nice but note that there's no alcoholic drinks at the time. I did get a genmaicha tea that I like and would get again. You do need a reservation but it's not too hard to get within a few days or even day of for a small party. GREAT The wedge - we always get this I think it's my top favorite roll Manila Dune Sunset GOOD Point reyes - a lot of textures but still good Futomaki - more classic Bao buns (appetizer) Monterey Genmaicha tea - I like how earthy this tea is WOULD SKIP Barbers - this is a lot like the Shizen one if you've been there but it was too heavy on the beets Half Moon - the roll was fine but we all thought the mango salsa on top was a weird combo... felt like something to be eaten with chips not on a sushi roll This place is like shizen in sf but without the impossible to get reservations! I would recommend!!
